after replacing:

Find = (abc)|(ghi)
Replace = ???

?1*?2^ it does not work.

It did not work because the if-2 is still inside the if-1 conditional. Use the optional parentheses to make sure things are grouped the way you want. (?1*)(?2^) or (?1*)?2^
