Through the title bar ?
-
Hello,
I’ve a very strange problem on Notepad++ (just installed the last version, the problem remains).
On my Windows screen, let’s say I put two windows: one is Notepad++, one is some other window (for example, a web browser, the Windows file explorer, or anything else).
I maximize those two windows, and I put the “Notepad ++” one on front (so the other one is on the back).
My problem is that when I click on the Notepad++ Title bar (with the intention to move it, to another screen for example, so I let the mouse button pushed), the mouse pointer just go “through” the Notepad++ window title bar and I move… the window on the background instead ! Which is not what I want, of course.
The problem seems erratic (does not always happen).
I don’t have this problem with any other software, only Notepad++.
I don’t remember having seen such problem in any Windows software (and I’m using it since Windows 3.11…)
I didn’t have this problem before (I’ve been using Notepad++ for years without any problem), so I don’t know what is happening.
My config is the following:
- Win 10 64 bits FR
- Notepad++ 7.9 32bits (installed version)
NB: I’ve the same problem on my laptop.
If anyone has any idea, I’m interested :)
Many thanks ! :)

The window needs to be in a non-maximized state. Unless my Windows 10 64-bit install is messed up?
Maybe a screenshot or screencast to show what you mean?
Cheers.

I don’t find this to be a true statement under Windows 10.

I don’t have the OP’s problem, either.
Similar to OP’s problem? : https://github.com/notepad-plus-plus/notepad-plus-plus/issues/8380

Maybe try it either of 2 ways:
- Slam your mouse pointer up to the top of the screen, then attempt to click-n-drag
- Point the the vertical middle of the Notepad++ title bar and then do the click-n-drag
My guess would be that (2) will be successful and (1) will result in the problem your complaint is based upon.

A little Google-ing. seems you need to have the snap features turned on - which I don’t. So I’m experiencing default “old” Windows behavior - maximized Windows can’t be “moved” unless you un-max them.
Thanks @Alan-Kilborn.
Cheers.

Hmm, I did not know this.
Thanks, @Michael-VincentI actually hate the snap feature (I’m an old-timer) but I did not know that it could be “off”.
I’ve since turned it off and am – and will be more so in the future – happier.I’m not sure why click+drag of a maximized window has to be tied into “snap”, but whatever.
It will be the one-and-only feature of my now-defunct snap-ability that I will miss. -

I resemble that remark!

This is an old thread, hopefully still visible.
I have the same problem with Windows 11 and I can replicate 100% fo the time.
The problem is only on 1080p monitor when also having a 4k monitor in extend mode. 4k monitor is the primary monitor. If I change display settings only to use a 1080p monitor (removing 4k monitor), it works as intended.
problem is only on the 1080p monitor, and 4k monitor needs to be in the extended setup.
I have a 1080p monitor left, 4k middle, and 1080p right. both 1080p monitors have this issue.
No other app has this issue, only notepad++. I’m on version 8.4.8 (32-bit)I maximise the notepad++, then I go all the way to the very top of the screen to drag it, and it focuses on the window behind it. Instead, I need to move the mouse a few pixels below the top of the monitor to grap the notepad++ window.
