      Sometimes I like to change text in the UI via the english_customizable.xml file and selecting it in Preferences > General > Localization dropdown.

      But…one thing I’ve noticed is that if I make my custom text “too long” for the dropdown main menu entries, the entry will appear as BLANK.

      I’m not sure if this has always happened, or if the “blank” thing is new with a recent version of Notepad++. I seem to recall that previously my custom text would just be truncated instead of blanked out entirely, but I could very well be wrong about this.

      But what I’m wondering about is, is there a way for me to know how long is too long, aside from trial and error experimentation?
      Or in general, why this is happening?
      It seems like there maybe shouldn’t be a limitation as long as the width of the longest item in a menu isn’t “too crazy” (not sure how to define that).
      That is, it could be a lot longer than what I’ve set and still be “reasonable” on the screen…

      Thanks for any ideas…

        @Alan-Kilborn said in Max menu item width for "localized" text:

        why this is happening?

        Don’t know for sure. My guess is that it has to do with the size of the menu or dialog entry that the text normally goes into.
        Too bad @sasumner isn’t around this forum anymore… I think he would be able to answer both the “why” and the technical implementation and possibly the “how long” (and might even know if/when it changed, and what prompted that change)…

          @PeterJones

          Thanks for your thoughts.
          Maybe this will be the thing to kick me into making a github issue; till now I’ve just been a browser there. :-)
