Can I have a vertical line after 72 characters, to remind me the “legal” python line of code length? -
YES! The feature you are looking for is called “Vertical Edge” and you can see it in the Settings menu > Preferences… area:

Brilliant :~) Tried that works a treat. Also you can have Multiple ones eg ’ 36 72 144 ’ seems to show 3 lines :~)

@WhiskyDrip Addendum 72 was the Character length for e-mail lines back in the day :~)
