      Hello,

      I just did a recent update of Notepad. Unlike in the past all my files have disappeared.

      How can I get them back?

      Thank you,

      Greg Shaw

        @Greg ,

        Unfortunately, your session file seems to have been overwritten with the update, so the list of files is gone.

        If the files were saved, you can just re-open them from the saved location(s).

        If you had unsaved files (like new 1 or a copy of somefile.txt which you were editing), they might still be in %AppData%\Notepad++\backup 🛈 and you can re-open them from there.

          Hi Peter,

          Thanks for your help.

          These files should definitely be saved but I am still not sure where to retrieve them.

          Are you able to assist me with this?

          Thank you again,

          Greg Shaw

            Sorry. My magic 8-ball tells me it is unclear where on your storage drive that you might have had files saved.

            If you know the content of files (likely phrases), and maybe their extension, you could use Search > Find in Files to look – just tell it to search recursively from c:\ … It will take a long time, but if you’re lucky, once you find one file, the others might be in the same directory.

              Hi Peter,

              I figured out what you were trying to tell me and YES I was able to find the missing files.

              Thank you for your assistance. Very much appreciated.
