Hello all. This is my first post here, so I would like to start by saying that Notepad++ is amazing! The more time I spend in .cmd files the more awesome functions I find it is capable of. It was also very helpful editing Garmin GPS Map Waypoint (text) files. Thank you for this killer app!

And now for what brought me here.

Obviously, pressing <Ctrl-F> opens the “Find” dialog, but as of v8.1.3, pressing <Ctrl-F> twice in succession no longer moves the Find dialog to the Editor Window. Though this may not seem like much to some, working on 4 monitors (2 are 4K) with many apps opened it can be difficult to locate which screen the Notepad++ Find dialog has chosen to pop-up on. I set the Find dialog transparency level up which makes it even harder to find.

From the v8.1.3 change.log file I get the feeling this has something to do with one of these, but primarily the Find. etc. dialog change:

    • “6. Add the capacity to switch among Find/Replace/FiF/Mark via their shortcuts.”
    • “4. Fix crash issue when several instances of the save dialogs are shown.”

I added the second items just because dialogs are mentioned.

Is there a way to configure this behavior back into play? Is there any chance or enabling this functionality if it was inadvertently removed?

    Thank you.

    Scott

See the topic “Double Ctrl+F won’t bring the find dialog in fromt of the primary window” for a recent discussion on exactly that issue.

We went in-depth into the implementation and why it is the way it is now, and why “double Ctrl+F” was a misnomer in the first place.
