      Hello all,
      I hope you are well?

Well, I’ve been using Notepad++ for more than 10 years now, with full pleasure.
But somehow it doesn’t work as well as it used to. Maybe someone left the team? There is always some problem.

      1. problem
Why is the plugin Notepad# (Sharp) not available anymore?
The plugin always worked fine, highlighted and marked the HEX code colors in the appropriate color in my CSS files. Sometime during a Notepad++ update it stopped working. Just like that!

      2. problem
I have the alternative plugin: QuickColorPicker (NppQCP(x64).dll)
installed. I was very annoyed, the HEX code color was only underlined with the respective color and not marked as with Notepad# (Sharp) plugin. But yes another possibility I do not have.

      3. problem
Now all of a sudden QuickColorPicker doesn’t work anymore.
No HEX code colors are underlined, it just doesn’t work anymore.
I can call the color picker when I double click the HEX code.
But the problem now is that when I click anywhere in Notepad++ the color picker window does not disappear. I have to click the ESC key. This can’t be the case.

I updated everything (v8.3.3), reinstalled, but it doesn’t work.
Do I really have to look for a new Notepad tool now?
      There are no better alternatives.
The Notepad++ was really good, why did it become so bad?

Thank you very much in advance for any tips.
      Best regards, Elena

        @elena-lauder ,

The plugins are all maintained by different plugin developers, not the central Notepad++ application development team. Do not blame Notepad++ if the plugin developers do not maintain their plugins. There have been occasional notepad++ updates in the last 5 years which have changed the plugin interface sufficiently that older plugins will not work with the newer version (the most recent in v8.3, so your v8.3.3 requires plugins to be updated) – if plugin authors don’t update their plugins, they will no longer be compatible.

I cannot find any mention of Notepad# (Sharp) plugin in any of my historical records, and a quick web search hasn’t found it. I don’t know where you got it, but I think it was a manually-installed plugin rather than one that was made available in the standard notepad++ plugin choosers (whether the old Plugin Manager or the new builtin Plugins Admin).

Regarding Quick Color Picker, the old author wasn’t interested in maintaining it, but one of the regulars here made a fork and made it available: https://github.com/vinsworldcom/nppQCP/releases/tag/2.1.2.1 . You need to install the most recent version from there to make it work with Notepad++ v8.3.3

The NotepadSharp plugin claimed to “Peek CSS hex colors” as one of its many features. It hasn’t been updated in ten years, and the domain that was hosting the binaries is unreachable: http://notepadsharp.codeplex.com

You can still download the “Html Color Plugin for Notepad++ (Unicode)” at this domain: https://npp.campulka.net/dl.php

As you would expect from something advertising Unicode as a new feature, it’s 32-bit only.

htmlcolor.dll: PE32 executable (DLL) (GUI) Intel 80386, for MS Windows

              Hello all,
              Sorry for the late reply.
Life plays a role, different things have happened.
I appreciate your answer, thank you very much for that!
I need to find an alternative, it was the same with Firefox. Many plugins suddenly stopped working after an update.
              Thanks for your inputs.
Sorry for my reaction, maybe it came across too aggressively.

I just made an old portable version for that one function.
I’ll do it that way, but anyway to you all for the inspiration.
              Best regards, Elena
