      Hey guys. I just started using this laptop, and was planning on installing Notepad++.

      But, when I came to the website, I saw that two of the available downloads were:

      • [1]Notepad++ v8.4.4 (Happy Users’ Edition)

      • [2]Notepad++ v8.4.3 (Unhappy Users’ Edition)

      So… what’s the story here exactly? Is there one version that I’m supposed to install over the there?

      Also, if I’m running:

      • Windows 10 Home, ver21H2, Build 19044.1766 — 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

      then, which version should install? The 32bit version, or the 64bit version?
      And more importantly, what’s the difference?

      (to wit, in times past, I’ve found it’s a better idea to install Irfanview-32bit , instead of Irfanview-64bit, even when my operating-system is a 64bit operating system)

      Can anyone give me some advice?
      Thanks!

        @Alpha-LeFactor ,

        8.4.4 64-bit, unless you have a known reason to stick with 32bit or an older Notepad++. Nothing you said indicates a need for either

        (Specifically, 8.4.4 is newer than 8.4.3, and there are no critical bugs, so use the newest. And other than needing outdated plugins that have never been updated to 64bit, there is no good reason for 32bit Notepad++)

          @PeterJones I’m rolling up my sleeves and installing 8.4.4 right now.
          Wish me luck, and hope this goes well!

            Ok, I installed it.
            So far so good.

            Installing software makes me nervous, these days.
            90% of the time? No issues.

            But that other 10% of the time when I install – or update software – oh boy.
            THEN there’s issues. Galore.

            THANKS!

              I feel your feeling.
              But with Notepad++, you’re good.
              But maybe I don’t totally believe this because I’ve never installed it – I’ve only used the portable version.
              Perhaps you didn’t know this exists?
              Nobody has ever convinced me there are benefits to the installed version.
