Notepad++ not opening from Windows Search Results
-
I have an issue where Notepad will open up any files from the Windows 11 search results. I normally open my files by clicking the Windows start button and typing the file name I want to open and then clicking enter. All of sudden Notepad opens those files instead of Notepad++. If I open a file from file explorer NP++ opens it. I have confirmed that NP++ is the default app for txt files. I have uninstalled and reinstalled NP++. Has anyone ever seen this before? Any suggestions?

Windows 11 actively fights against user choices and decisions. You may need to make sure it’s not just the double-click “default”, but that all the “Open With” and such alternatives also default to Notepad++.

@PeterJones I have set NP++ as default every way I can and it won’t work. This just started happening 2 days ago and I have been running Win11+NP++ for months now. NP++ is he default program everywhere else I try to open a txt file except when I search for the file. And the problem is that is how I always open these files.

If you haven’t recently updated Notepad++, it means that either you changed something or Windows 11 changed something. For example, maybe Windows 11 updated, and that update messed something up.
You might want to find a conglomeration of super users of their computer, and ask them “when I double-click a file from Windows Explorer, it properly runs it using the default application, but when I use the Windows 11 search results and run the file from there, it opens the file in notepad.exe instead of the default application”. Make sure you supply them with your full Windows version (don’t just say “Windows 11”) The answer to that question should be the same whether or not your default application is Notepad++.
