That was a poor choice of place, but, since you did it there, you shouldn’t have also done it here. There is no valid reason to duplicate postings on this site.

I used moderator power to delete that duplicate. Answers should go in reply to this topic.

How are you getting into safe mode? There are quite a few ways though don’t know if the method used matters in terms of reproducing the issue.
Which context menu is crashing? Explorer has many.
Were you able to stop or prevent Explorer.exe from crashing? If so, what did you do?
Finally, please post the contents of your
? / Debug Info...
menu. You implied that you are using the installed version of Notepad v8.5.7. The Debug Info will help confirm this and may have other details that help in reproducing the reported issue so that it can be fixed. -
@imanubdesigner
I can confirm the problem with N++ v8.5.7 x64.You should create a Github issue here: https://github.com/notepad-plus-plus/nppShell/issues
(also with a link to this thread)@mkupper
I hold the Shift-key when restarting Windows, then at the boot time I clicked thru all that offered Windows boot menu options up to the safe-mode one. -
@imanubdesigner and @xomx - I have posted this to github for Don Ho’s attention.
Edit: The issue on github has been moved from the main Notepd++ issues list to its nppShell issues list.

I’m so sorry. My bad. I won’t do anything like this again

The first context menu you have just right-click on an application, image, etc… I have an application in front of me, Display Driver Uninstaller, for example, I right-click on it and there is Explorer. exe crashes and has a refresh. As soon as you click again, the same thing again: infinite.

mkupper, as soon as I right click explorer.exe crashes. I can’t even see “Edit with Notepad++” (no context menu appears, because explorer.exe crashes before I can see it). You should correct. Thank you! Very kind, mkupper.

The new installers which contain the fix of crash in Safe Mode is available here for testing:
http://download.notepad-plus-plus.org/repository/MISC/fixSafeModeCrash/The binaries are signed. Could you test the binary of your choice and confirm if the crash has been fixed please?

I just got hold of the computer. Sorry for any delay. Yes, I confirm that the explorer.exe crash problem (a brutal refresh just after clicking the right mouse button) has been resolved. Now, when you right click, there is the usual Windows context menu.
Thank you!

Thank you @imanubdesigner for the initial debugging to trace down what was causing the Explorer.exe crash and to
@xomx plus @donho for miplementing the fix.I able to confirm that the old npp 8.5.7 (both x32 and x64) crashes Explorer when in Windows 11 Safe Mode and that both of the new npp 8.5.7 with the nppShell fix work in Windows 11 Safe mode and also seem fine in Windows 11 standard mode. I did not test the ARM version.
The crash with the old version was interesting in that when you right clicked on a file then Explorer.exe would quietly vanish instead of showing the right-click context menu.
I have closed issue on github though assume there’s still work to create a public update to Notepad++ that includes the updated contextMenu\NppShell.dll

@mkupper Exactly! Thank you for helping to correct this very annoying problem. Have a nice day!
