I use select, CTRL drag, to copy text every few minutes. Today it doesn’t work. I have searched and searched for a solution and can find none.
thanks is advance if anyone has a suggestion.
It works in Word, so I don’t think it is the mouse or keyboard at fault.

Workaround is to drag without Ctrl key down, then, once in position, press Ctrl and hold down while you release.

I don’t like it either, but it appears to have been introduced by a change in Scintilla, and thus not easily rectified (if possible at all) by Notepad++. See this GitHub issue and discussion.

Edit to add: I only just realized you don’t have to wait until you reach the drop position to press the Ctrl key. Anytime after you press the left mouse button down is OK — you just can’t press Ctrl before the mouse button.

@Coises Thank you!!! I was just getting ready in reinstall and decided to check my post again and your reply was there.
It is goofy, but it sure works!

Wow, this is a really often used UI process that is standard across most applications.

Thank you both for commenting or I would have struggled to find a solution.

In 8.6.3-RC2, if the newly-restored setting at Settings | Preferences | Editing 2: Multi-Editing: Enable Multi-Editing (Ctrl+Mouse click/selection) is not checked, the familiar Ctrl+drag behavior is restored.

This seems like a reasonable compromise — and since the source of the new behavior is a change in Scintilla, outside the control of Notepad++, it’s probably the only reasonable compromise possible.
