Same action on the (same) highlighted sections
-
Hi fellows,
I use the Highlighting feature without the “Match whole word” option.
Iwould like to perform the same action on all the highlighted strings, let’s say click Del, or pressing a char to replace not only the original highlight but also all the remaing ones.
I do remember having done this in the past, but maybe I’m wrong…
P.S.: I posted the question because no help by googling, it is difficult to find the right keywords imo
Thank you

Sorry, no actions are currently possible on these strings of text, as the “Smart Highlighting” effect is only a visual one.
Notepad++ has scripting plugins, which could make such a thing possible, but it can’t do it on its own.

@Alan-Kilborn thanks a lot friend, that’s so useful advice, at least I will stop loosing my time trying to remember how I… did(n’t) do it

Maybe I’ve misunderstood the original requirements. But if I’m right, after selecting one, which activates Smart Highlighting on the others, @Gian-Matteo should be able to use the new Edit > Multi-Select All > … family of actions to then multi-select all the words that were Smart Highlighted. Once they are multi-selected, then “click Del, or pressing a char to replace” will act on all of them, not just the first.

Multi-Select All
Good call. I haven’t delved into the relatively new multi-editing capabilities, probably because of the potential conflicts with the age-old column block selection behavior.

v8.6.4 with Multi-Select enabled and Column-to-Multi disabled behaves just like pre-8.6 with multi-select enabled, except it also has the new menu entries which allow extending the multi-selection easily; so it allows for reasonable column-select behavior while still allowing the new menu for multi-select: I’m quite happy with the current state. (The interim versions, on the other hand, where column-selects magically and unexpectedly became multi-selects were completely unusable for me.)

If I’m not mistaken, that “simply” requires retraining yourself on proper key-lifting at the appropriate time. :-)
Or, is there more to it?

So Ctrl+Shift+… and Shift+Ctrl+… different behaviour would be acceptable too…
Sorry, not for me. -
