      I had a bunch that for some reason I got into a habit of not saving (since it retains the texts even if it crashes I thought why not…) - and, for some reason, they disappeared today… like, only a blank ‘new 1’ was there… is there some place it stores such ‘cache’…?

        I guess you discovered why that was a bad idea.

        Try looking in the Notepad++ folder under the “backup” folder.

          %appdata%\notepad++\backup is the default location but you can change it it in the settings.

            This is not always the case, but is the normal case.

            but you can change it it in the settings.

            I don’t believe you can; in the settings it appears greyed/disabled; thus, it shows you the location, but doesn’t allow you to set a different one.

              @Nicholas, looks like you cant!

              as @Alan-Kilborn pointed out, the option is there, but it’s greyed out.

              is there a toggle that enables editing?
