Seriously, from what parallel universe did the devs come from to completely exclude from the mouse wheel the one function found in ALL editors, that is, to scroll the damn page up and down, and instead… scroll the tabs???

      EDIT:
      Take a look at this:
      _conflict.gif It

It turns out I was the one from a parallel universe using WizMouse (free) for many years to make my life easier by not having to click on windows in order to scroll them, and NotePad++ proved to be the only app incompatible, which is why I thought it was NotePad++, but the confidence from the other guys here made me suspect it.

Seriously, not sure what universe YOU’RE from, but pointing at the editing area and scrolling the mouse wheel DOES scroll the damn page up and down.

Reference THIS SECTION of the user manual, look for the text MOUSEWHEEL so that you can consider what you might be doing wrong to obtain what seems like odd behavior to you.

Note: to avoid looking the fool, it pays to not get all cocky when posting here.

Did you watch out where your mouse cursor was placed when scrolling the mouse wheel? Scrolling the tab bar (instead of the editor page) when the mouse cursor is placed in that bar is a very common feature in applications with a tabbed UI. Test it in your browser.

I used WizMouse for years with simultaneous use of Notepad++.
              Never had an issue.
But… when I upgraded to Win11 I guess I forgot about WizMouse, because I didn’t bring it along.

Under Windows 10 and later, the OS provides the setting you installed WizMouse for by itself. See

Hmm… I kept using Windows 7 until about 4 years ago, when I switched to 10.
I didn’t install WizMouse and everything was fine, until I used some apps that didn’t scroll automatically, then I re-installed it - but I don’t remember which ones.
Anyway, I uninstalled it now, and we’ll see…
                  Thanks!

@dinkumoil said in [SOLVED] What's with the schizo behavior of the mouse wheel???:

Windows 10 and later, the OS provides the setting you installed … WizMouse

That explains why I never missed WizMouse.
Perhaps that Windows setting defaults to on (because mine is on and I don’t remember explicitly turning it on – but my memory is “not good”).

I did some search and appears that:

                      1. this feature was added to Windows 10 in April 2018 with Update (version 1803) - about 3 years after the first Windows 10 release

                      2. such a feature was already used in Mac OS called “Scroll inactive windows” since 2016 with macOS Sierra.

                      3. WizMouse though was much older, since January 19, 2009.

Conclusion: probably everyone copied it from WizMouse :)
