Can anyone reproduce this eventual regression?

@donho no, cannot replicate. I tried using UDL, non-UDL, re-starting NPP after changes etc. New tabs always follows current preferences settings

Check the scenario here:
https://github.com/notepad-plus-plus/notepad-plus-plus/pull/18499#issuecomment-6559825411Yes, that is at least what I attempted to replicate.
I tried opening new tabs with language set at both UDL and non-UDL. In my case the new tabs (documents?) would always follow the current preferences setting for new document language. It would not incorrectly always use UDL.

Hello, @donho and All,
Many thanks for this new release !
-
Point
9( option to change dialog font and size ). I particularly like it : I’m getting old and my eyes too ! Thus, I’ll probably need it in the near future ! -
Point
10and11are useful and I immediately adopted the UP location forIncremental Search! -
Point
20will certainly help some users, usingUDLlanguages -
Point
21help us to get a better control upon the current N++ session -
Point
26will return more accurate results in counting or marking the regex occurrences
Now, I did a test with my
portable N++ v8.9.9 x64 bitsinstallation, in order to test the point8: ImproveFind in Filesperformance.The search, within an USB key, for the string
Fi, with the match case and regex options, on all sub-folders returns25,587hits in641files of1,149files searched, for either :-
Notepad++, in
1 m 26 s -
Multi-replace, in
1 m 06 s -
Search++, in
2 m 10 s
Comparing with a previous identical test with
N++ v8.9.8in this post, I deduced that, for a very similar number of files, theN++search took roughly9 / 10seconds less. So, a significant improvement !Best Regards,

@donho: I confirmed that I could replicate ozone10’s steps from the comment with RC1, and the bug showed. Then when I tried the executable from the build of 18587, and the problem went away.
I tried opening new tabs with language set at both UDL and non-UDL. In my case the new tabs (documents?) would always follow the current preferences setting for new document language. It would not incorrectly always use UDL.
Your description of the sequence does not match ozone10’s steps. You need to create the UDL, set the default language to that UDL, and make sure it works by NewFile/
Ctrl+Nand seeing that the UDL is correctly applied. Then exit Notepad++ so it saves that setting. Then start Notepad++, delete that UDL, and exit/restart Notepad++ again. Then do a New File, and, in our experiments (@donho, ozone10, and myself all confirmed), the RC1 notepad++.exe incorrectly still applies the no-longer-existing UDL to the new file (and has the dropdown with an empty selection). For me, with #18587’s artifact, following those same steps, it goes back to correctly applying None (Normal Text) instead of a nonexistent UDL (and the dropdown agrees). -

- Add an option to display the Incremental Search bar at the top. (Fix #18486)
I installed the RC (x86 on Windows 7), but I don’t see a new option under Preferences>Searching or anywhere else. I see it in the source code. Is it dependent on something else to be shown?
On Windows 10 (presumably no different on Windows 7) it’s in the incremental search bar itself. There is a button that has an upward pointing arrow when the bar is at the bottom; clicking it moves the bar to the top and changes the button to a downward pointing arrow. The button is in a fixed position; on my screen, its left edge is 1055 pixels to the right of the left edge of the Notepad++ window. If the window is not that wide, you can’t see it.

Thank you. Mine was around 1240 pixels over - way beyond the Count checkbox and about an inch off my usual window size. It’s lonely out there, no label, no tooltip.
When I clicked it, the search bar disappeared and it required a restart to see it again. Clicking back to the bottom did not.
Do the options need to be spaced so far apart?
