The feature is not a waste of time. I have used that feature for more than a decade. It would be a waste of time to spend time to remove it (and be a huge annoyance to people to have relied on it for more than a decade).
Now, if you mean, you don’t care about that feature, that’s fine. But why would you want it removed?
If you mean, you are having difficulty using it, and would like help, then @donho pointed you to my post, which list a few debugging techniques which would help us help you. I will reiterate them:
- Try with all plugins disabled, to make sure it’s not a plugin issue
- share ?-menu’s Debug Info
- share your FIND WHAT (use
`before and after your search, like`my.*search`, so that the Forum doesn’t “eat” your search characters as post-formatting) - share all the options in the Find in Files dialog (Filters, Directory, Search Mode, other checkboxes – a screenshot would be easiest)
- does your directory contain
*.lnkto files or other directories? or windows junctions or symlinks or hardlinks?
So if you’d like help with it, feel free to provide actual information. If you don’t want help, that’s fine.

The reputation system prevents spammers from flooding this forum with links to their ad farms. The minimum reputation to upvote or downvote will keep spammers from creating multple accounts to be able to upvote themselves, so that they can get around the posting limits for users with low reputation.

Also, there is irony in someone complaining about a reputation system because they didn’t have enough reputation to use the reputation system to dowvote.
