I have Notepad++ set to always open a new instance and I’ve hidden the tab bar. However, when I press Ctrl-N no new window appears (an “invisible” tab appears). Is it possible to disable file tabbing altogether? And have Ctrl-N open a new Notepad++ window?

      Hello @Sano-Toshiba

I have Notepad++ set to always open a new instance

      How did you do that?

and I’ve hidden the tab bar. However, when I press Ctrl-N no new window appears (an “invisible” tab appears).

      Afaik, no.

And have Ctrl-N open a new Notepad++ window?

I assume what you want is ALT+F6, but if you want to reassign the shortcurt you can do so.
      Settings->Shortcut Mapper
In Main menu you need to relase the CTRL+N for a new tab and in Run commands you need to
      modify Open in another instance

      Cheers
      Claudia

        Beautiful. Thanks Claudia.

As for your first question, what I said was rather vague, but here is the answer.

But I’m sure you know this already.

Yes, I know that setting. I was confused because I thought you mean that double-clicking
on a file will automatically start a new instance of npp. But this doesn’t make sense
when reading the rest of your question. Sometimes I should just take the time to
read the post carfully and maybe twice. But good to see that your fouund a solution
          to your issue.

          Cheers
          Claudia
