ftp profiles gone a lot
-
my ftp profiles gone sometimes after restart of the pc and sometimes after restart on notepad++
is there anyway to do an export/import to them?
other solutions will be welcome too -
Notepad++ itself doesn’t have ftp profiles. I will assume you are asking about the NppFTP Plugin’s FTP profiles, as that’s the only ftp-related plugin that I am aware of or have experience of.
They shouldn’t disappear. I have been using my same profiles for years, and they’ve never disappeared on me.
For a normal installation of Notepad++, NppFTP keeps its profiles in
%AppData%\Notepad++\Plugins\Config\NppFTP\NppFTP.xml. And like most NPP config files, it only gets written to disk when Notepad++ exits, not when you make the change. So after exiting Notepad++, you should be able to copy that file somewhere else. But I doubt that it’s just somehow magically disappearing (unless you have an over-zealous AntiVirus or similar program running; we have had reports before of things that turned out to be AV software deleting Notepad++ config files for no good reason). The two other guesses I have as to what might be going wrong for you:
- You are leaving Notepad++ open when you shutdown or restart the PC, so maybe the shutdown sequence is killing the NPP process before the plugin has had a chance to save its config file
- to prevent this, you could exit Notepad++ first, then shut down or reboot after that
- You don’t have the right permissions to be able to write the config file, so NppFTP isn’t able to save the files
- in Windows Explorer, navigate to
%AppData%\Notepad++\Plugins\Config\NppFTP\directory- right click on
NppFTPin the directory tree, and do Properties and Security, and make sure your user has Modify and Write (or Full Control, which includes both).
- right click on
- Also make sure that Notepad++ is really running as the same user you are logged in as
- in Windows Explorer, navigate to
- You are leaving Notepad++ open when you shutdown or restart the PC, so maybe the shutdown sequence is killing the NPP process before the plugin has had a chance to save its config file

option 1 is most likely, but one time it happened when i restarted notepad++ himself
i will backup the file you told me
