Maybe the simplest answer ever?

Just downloaded and installed the plugin. All I really want is for when I have a crash or automatic re-start due to update installations, for instance, my notepad revision is auto-saved. I have the Autosave plugin…My (simple?) question is…
So when I use Notepad++ to generate a text file, and I “Save as” the default looks to be “Normal text file (*.txt)”, just like if I am saving a normal notepad file. Do these "Normal text file"s autosave or is there a trick I am missing? Can’t seem to find direction anywhere?
