        You might be looking for: Settings > Preferences > Multi-Instance = Default (mono-instance)

        Then again, if you have an association for session files, it might be calling notepad++ with the -multiInst command-line option, which overrides the Preferences. You’d have to check your Windows registry to fix that.

          @PeterJones Thanks a lot for your suggestion. Mono-instance fixed my problem.

            there should be an option in windows about mouseclicks , defining if single or double click shall open a file , maybe that caused the problem
