    Is there a setting to automatically clear the previous search results from the search results pane when initiating a new find-in-files operation?

      @Vinnie-M

      No, but I must ask why this is important? Previous searches get collapsed automatically so they are visually “out of the way”.

      Related: Probably you know this, but you can do it manually by right-clicking in the search results window and choosing Clear all.

        I see they are collapsed, but visually, to me, I still have to scan to see what in the results window is from an old search and what is from the current search. My brain, for whatever reason, doesn’t filter out the other ones even though they’re collapsed.

        I did find the context-menu Clear function and do use that… just trying to avoid the extra steps if it was possible.

          You have a different kind of brain. :-)

          However, maybe a feature request for this kind of thing is not totally unreasonable. Here’s the info on how to make such a request:

            Thought continued…

            It would help for the case where you want to do an Open all after the search. In those cases I always forget about the old stuff hanging around and end up with more files open (sometimes way more if it has been a long day) than intended.

              Right click in the Search results window and click on “Purge for every search”.

              Next time you search the previous results will be cleared.

                The feature @Rayhaan-Sahib mentions was added in 8.0 with THIS change.

                As 8.0 was released on 2021-06-07, the discussion earlier in this thread predates that.
