NPP menus refreshing causing computer to slow down
-
Hi, all. Notepad++ periodically refreshes the menu bar - it flashes a couple of times - and it seems like a ton of processing power is used by this, because my mouse and keyboard input freezes or stutters for a few seconds.
It happens every fifteen minutes or so.
I don’t see anything in my Windows logs that might point to a problem.
Has anyone else experienced this? Help?

Sorry, no.
Thanks for sharing your Debug Info. With only the default plugins plus DSpellCheck, I doubt it’s a plugin causing the problem. (That’s often our first guess, especially for people who have dozens of plugins installed.)
Do you use group-meeting / screen-sharing software (Teams, Zoom, or similar)? There have been other issues involved with drawing of the GUI elements that appear to be caused by screen-sharing software – since you mentioned the menu was being re-drawn, maybe it has something to do with that.
Also, other people seem to have reports of high cpu usage as seen in Task Manager, so it might be a related problem. Maybe some of the investigations mentioned there might help you as well.
(Unfortunately, when none of the regulars in the forum have been able to replicate the problem, it’s hard to help someone else to debug what’s wrong with their setup.)

@PeterJones Thank you for the leads. I do use Zoom. It seems to happen with or without zoom running. Maybe it’s f.lux! I’ll do some experimenting.

Hi, I encounter this problem on every notepad++ opening. The main menu refreshes 3 times, and each refresh takes around a second. Removing “Explorer” plugin fixed it for me.
