=lost settings after upgrading to 8.2.1 32bit

Hi.
Just after i upgraded to 8.2.1 (32bit), all my recent documents did not re-open, the only open file is the “readme” related to the npp version.
So … the dozens of files (tabs) I used to have always opened are not showing up now.
My fomer settings are gone, e.g. what languages I do not want to see offered on the “Language” menu, my “User Defined Languages” are gone.

What did i do wrong?
Is there a way I can recover those settings ?

I admit I did not take any backups before upgrading. I am used to blindly trusting npp upgrades (maybe too much?).

Still the BEST file editor :) !!!

I’m sorry for your lost settings. During a normal upgrade process (running Notepad’s ?-menu Update Notepad++ entry, or having Notepad++ automatically ask you if you’d like to update) does not normally overwrite any settings, including the session file or User Defined Languages, saved in %AppData%\Notepad++ 🛈. Further, manually downloading the official installer executable and runnning it also does not overwrite any settings, including the session file.

We occasionally hear reports of such settings getting overwritten, but whenever a Community-forum regular has tried to replicate the problem, they never lose their old settings. And no one who has complained of this issue has ever given us explicit enough steps that are able to replicate the results.

If your config files were truly overwritten or deleted, then there’s not anything we can do. If you changed state somehow, there’s a small possibility of recovery… but that would require that you knew how things were set up before, exactly – and if you have to ask us to help with your settings, then you probably don’t know enough about how it used to be to be able to tell us what we’d need to find your old settings, unfortunately. For example, if you used to be running through a portable version which kept its settings in the local folder, but then ran the installer, it would have put the new copy in c:\program files (x86)\Notepad++ (since you mentioned 32-bit application) and the new settings in c:\users\_____\AppData\Roaming\Notepad++ or equivalent (aka %AppData%\Notepad++); if this is what happened, then the old settings would be in your old portable installation folder. Other than that, I cannot think of anything that the installer would have messed up.

THANK YOU for the reply.
Now, every time I upgrade, I am careful to empty the checkbox on the last dialog that would let me “open notepad++”. I just ask the install to finish without re-opening the app.
With this workaround is enough.
