    Notepad++ fucking sucks because it makes a lot of assumptions about use.

    For example, when opening a npp session, if the file is not found immediately the file is removed from the session file without preamble or confirmation.

    If it so happens that some of those files are located on mapped network drives that aren’t immediately available, then the session links are lost forever.

    That’s a bad fucking assumption gents.

    There are a lot of over-engineered shit piles in npp like that example. In every corner you run face-to-face with some arcane preference.

    Make npp more like a blank sheet of paper. Have you noticed a blank sheet of paper has very few rules built in to the “system”?

    If you are going to make something a bit more useful than blank paper, then at least have the courtesy to eat your own dog food. That would be ok.

    “User Defined Languages” (UDL) which supports syntax highlighting comes quickly to mind.

    For example, while npp comes with extremely robust, prefab support for COBOL and Asn.1 the rest of us are forced to tackle ubiquitous Markdown using the shitty UDL system.

    If it is not shitty, then why aren’t the robust prefab languages established using the UDL? Because it’s shitty, that’s why.

    This may sound harsh, I’m sorry. In my opinion, npp needs a good spring cleaning of its bullshit.

    Let me add I love npp and I have used it for decades. Keep up the good work.

      I find it interesting that so many users find the time to write such a “nice” comment, but obviously don’t have the time to formulate a reasonable description of an improvement they would like to see. Why does everyone think that yelling and ranting will do more than contributing?
      Is that how we were raised? Or do they know it’s not all as simple as they would have others believe, and hide this behind carefully chosen motivational phrases?
      Hmmm … probably falls under the mysteries of mankind.

            Actually, probably @Ekopalypse didn’t even notice the “channel” was “Boycott N++” – I know I didn’t. I rarely pay attention to the channel info; I just see that there is a new posting (somewhere) and click on my “inbox” to read.

              @Alan-Kilborn

              That chain re the github issue reinforces my point.

              Over-engineered hogwash.

              Go to the place in the code where npp inexplicably saves over the session file immediately after loading files. Remove that call.

              Fixed. You’re welcome.

              If that has crazy unintended consequences, then, again, it only proves my point.

              Follow the single responsibility principle.

              Also, respect users’ files and do not overwrite files without specific direction to do so.

              If a user wishes to save a new session by creating a new session file or overwriting an old file then by all means. They must do this manually now.

              Make “auto” systems automatic only by user control.

              You should appreciate that men in the 1960’s already understood this principle – controls had off, standby, auto, and on for example.

                Can’t tell if you want to rant, or have a meaningful discussion. Maybe you’re on the fence. It’s OK, I won’t bite on continuing, either way.

                      It is the doom of your generation that you filter your world through an ad hominem fallacy. That is your constant fear and insecurity camouflaged as pride. It has become your religious zeal and defining quality.

                      @Alan-Kilborn is the more intelligent.

                        LOL.
                        This stuff is great, and PERFECT for the category.

                          You should simply be ignored. You show no respect for the hard work of so many here, I sincerely hope that they completely ignore your request while you learn to communicate with other people respectfully.

                            @Ekopalypse : HI !

                            I would say this another way : I couldn’t find any proper place to do so …

                            The home-page consists of a list of “subjects”, where whish-list could be the good place for such a “subject” …

                              Did you happen to look in one of those “subjects” areas perhaps the FAQ since it might have relevant information. I guess not, but maybe now is the time to read some, especially Feature Request or Bug Report.

                              There is lots of good information within the FAQ and also posted/pinned to the start of most “subjects” areas as well. Unfortunately most “new” members of the forum seem to miss them. I suppose why would be the obvious question?

                              And I suppose english isn’t your first language as it would be wish-list, whish is a sound. But after reading the linked post in the FAQ, you will see that while talking about bugs or features here is helpful, officially those requests need to be made elsewhere to get any possible traction with the developers.

                              Terry
