I hate Notepad++ but I couldn’t even say how much I hate it because it’s so hard to sign up!
Sign-up using Facebook doesn’t work at all.
Sign-in using GitHub doesn’t work if you’re signed out at GitHub at the moment you try to sign in here.
Google+ sign up… uhm… Google+ was dropped by Google YEARS ago.
Other ways are disabled. I hate it.

It turns out that button lets you sign-in using your Google account. The icon should be changed. I suspect @PeterJones can fix that.
@PeterJones - I tested by opening a private browsing window and then dropping the URL of this forum thread into it. The process to share the love or hate seem clear and intuitive enough.

Don actually had to contact the NodeBB provider to make the fix, but the icon is now the modern Google “G” icon, instead of the outdated “G+” icon.

And had to remove the Facebook option as well, since FB changed their rules.So for now, we only support “Sign in with” for Github and Google (with a modern icon for Google):

I find the premise of this “hate” forum really funny.
What could anyone “hate” notepad++ for, it’s so great !
Then I remember, yes it was a huge struggle to register, I gave up multiple times.And you can only voice your opinion if you go over the Microsoft and Google EULAwalls ?
Man !! That is super L-A-M-E !
Obviously this discourages people who just had one thing to say and leave, in other words you are cutting of the “long tail” or all the rare opinions, problem and small things. If you have a problem it better be a big problem or you’ll just give up walking through the registration-maze in Catpcha-hell.
And eventually like me, who wish to completely SECEDE from the cloud, will eventually have no Microsoft-approved-voice here.
I understand, like all censorship, this is for the benefit of the enforcers, the moderators and to protect the sanity of this space and the good people who work on notepad++ but this is throwing the baby out with the bath water.
I think simple email+captcha ought to be enough for new account. Yes once in a wall a nasty bot or narcissist will get in and maybe ruin your day with nasty comment or ugly image. I’m 100% for having an AI blur/auto-content-warn the nastyness but silencing people is not the way. Especially not by putting walls so high you have to pledge allegiance to Bill Gates The 3rd.
This is the only way here about the minor sharp edges, that aren’t worth scaling the subscription-wall to complain about until you have learned to live with the pain of being cut on it that you don’t even feel like. Like for instance dealing with the find/replace dialog which is somehow both excellent and terrible at the same time.

It’s been tried multiple times, and the spam gets so high as to drown out any conversation. It doesn’t work – it is not enough, despite unfounded assertions from possibly-well-meaning individuals. Sorry.

If you cannot figure out how to make a dummy account at one of those sites without pledging your soul, that’s not really our fault, now is it.

But still please here me out, most of the rest of the internet manages very well with just email second factor and captcha. I don’t understand why this forum would be any different.
I am just asking you to consider all the people in the “long tail” that you are leaving out.
But I scaled the EULA wall and am now in bondage forever the Globalist Gates Estate so I earned my right to speak lol ;)
So the rest of the peasants and their petty problems no longer concern me ! If they want the right to speak, they too can ascent here to the rarified air of the techbro cloud elites !

I normally stay out of the “Boycott” discussions, because they’re a complete waste of time (as is this one, for example, so I’ll be leaving this one again), but it seems really odd
that you just started complaining about thisa year after you successfully created your account and made your first post. But whatever, the haters are going to hate. (update: never mind, you were whining about this a year ago, too.)If the owners of the forum software and the service that they are donating to host our forum (they normally charge people and organizations to host with them, but are giving the hosting for free to us, so beggars cannot be choosers), or the contributors to their ecosystem (not me, not the developer of Notepad++) ever provide a plugin that allowed a “login with XYZ” for any other OAUTH provider, I would enable that in a heartbeat, because I’m all for giving users a choice. I cannot speak for the rest of the internet, but the email-only didn’t work here, despite your repeated protestations, for whatever reason, so I’ve tried to help give users as much choice from OAUTH providers as possible; unfortunately, those are the only two for now.
Our choice of login has nothing to do with censoring people from speaking (as should be blatantly obvious, because we literally provide a topic for whining about Notepad++ in a forum dedicated to advocating for and helping people use Notepad++ … the N++ developer is highly into free speech), nor “shilling for the techbro cloud elites”, and everything to do with trying to make the user experience as good as possible for as many as we can.
