Where did the "plus" for creating new files go?

The program sed to have a + button at the end of the tabs bar, very convenient for creating a new file. After upgrading to version 8.9.3 it’s gone. How can I get it back?

No version of Notepad++ has such a button on the tabs bar. There is one on the far right of the menu bar (beyond the ? menu):

That one can be turned off using Settings > Prefeerences > General, where there’s a setting
☐ Hide right shortcuts + ▼ ✕ from the menu bar– if you checkmark that, and restart, then it will hide those three symbols. Notepad++ never sets that option by default, so maybe you accidentally set it at some point. If it’s checkmarked, just uncheckmark it, and restart, and those three buttons will be back. But, again, Notepad++ doesn’t have a similar button on the tabbar (and never has). You can, however, double-click to the right of the tabs, and it will create a new tab without needing to find the symbol
