Unofficial strings for translations
-
Hello batagy and All,
I would add, some features, introduced in N++ v6.7.9 :
Under <Commands>
<Item id = “42061” name = “Sort Lines As Integers Ascending”/>
<Item id = “42063” name = “Sort Lines As Decimals (Comma) Ascending”/>
<Item id = “42065” name = “Sort Lines As Decimals (Dot) Ascending”/><Item id = “42062” name = “Sort Lines As Integers Descending”/>
<Item id = “42064” name = “Sort Lines As Decimals (Comma) Descending”/>
<Item id = “42066” name = “Sort Lines As Decimals (Dot) Descending”/>
Under <ColumnEditor title=“Column Editor”><Item id=“2036” name=“Repeat :”/>
There are other places, in N++, where translations NEVER occur . Refer to the link below :
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/community/topic/173/not-translatable-places-in-program/1
I’m afraid that, for each of these places, they are hard-coded in the Notepad.exe file
Best Regards,

@guy038
Hi!The first 6 under <Commands> are not unofficial, they are included officially in the original master english.xml.
These were added not long ago indeed as they are new features.
I don’t think we need to mention such strings which are properly added to the reference file. Of course that can be information, but everybody should usually do the diff for the original english.xml, when doing the update.Under <ColumnEditor title=“Column Editor”>
<Item id=“2036” name=“Repeat :”/>
However this is important. I didn’t notice this new feature in Notepad++.
It’s not in the master xml, so it’s missing there. It’s unofficial. How did you discovered the item ID?I also discovered one another unofficial which is not is master xml:
Under <Commands>
<Item id=“43054” name=“Highlight…”/>Regarding the places which you say are not translated, yes, unfortunately they are not translatable. Don Ho should make them translatable, that requires program code changes. I think these kind of discoveries should go into another Topic.
-
So the complete known unofficial items are these 9 below, according to my knowledge:
Under <Commands>
<Item id=“44012” name=“Hide line number margin”/>
<Item id=“44013” name=“Hide bookmark margin”/>
<Item id=“44014” name=“Hide folder margin”/>
These 3 items are only appearing in menu if “Customize Toolbar” plugin is installed.Under <Commands>
<Item id=“43054” name=“Highlight…”/>Under <ColumnEditor title=“Column Editor”>
<Item id=“2036” name=“Repeat :”/>Under <StylerDialog title=“Styler Dialog”>
<Item id=“1” name=“&OK”/>
<Item id=“2” name=“&Cancel”/>Under <Delimiter title=“Delimiter”>
<Item id=“6257” name=“bla bla bla bla bla bla”/>
<Item id=“6258” name=“bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla”/> -
Hi, Batagy,
Thanks, for your reply. Four points :
Point #1 :
I didn’t know about the command 43054. It works nice, with my French translation :-) It related to the fourth tab of the Search/Replace dialog. Just note, Batagy, that if you don’t include the line
<Item id="43054" name="Highlight..."/>
, into the english.xml file, it is showed as Mark…, on the Search menu
Point #2 :
Concerning the
<Item id="**2036**" name="Repeat :"/>
, that quite easy ! I noticed that starting with the v6.7.9, the dialog of the Column Editor ( Menu Edit - Column Editor… ), contained a new user-zone RepeatThus, I had a look, in the English.xml file, in the localization folder, and looked for the Column Editor block below :
<ColumnEditor title="Column Editor"> <Item id="2023" name="Text to Insert"/> <Item id="2033" name="Number to Insert"/> <Item id="2030" name="Initial number:"/> <Item id="2031" name="Increase by:"/> <Item id="2035" name="Leading zeros"/> <Item id="2032" name="Format"/> <Item id="2024" name="Dec"/> <Item id="2025" name="Oct"/> <Item id="2026" name="Hex"/> <Item id="2027" name="Bin"/> <Item id="1" name="OK"/> <Item id="2" name="Cancel"/> </ColumnEditor>
From above, it’s not difficult to see that the possible id numbers, still available, were 2028, 2029, 2034, or the number 2036 which is next to the last used of that block !
I, first, tried with number 2036… Bingo, it was the right one :-))
BTW, you can save some place, deleting any language file, different from your mother language. As for me, I only keep 3 files ( english.xml, english_customizable.xml and french.xml )
Point #3 :
I never been able to understand where the line
<Item id="6258" name="bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla"/>
acts !I did understand that
<Item id="6257" name="bla bla bla bla bla bla"/>
is related with the Preferences dialog ( Menu Settings - Preferences - Delimiter ), but I’m still wondering about the other !?
Point #4 :
Did you notice that you usually need to stop and restart N++, as soon as you change your mother language file, in order to get the language modifications ?
Indeed, on opening, Notepad++ copy the language file, set in Settings - Preferences… - General - Localization, in the nativeLang.xml file, which is the true file used, for the translations
Cheers,

@guy038
Hi!Point #1 :
Oh, yes, thanks for correct me! It’s not “Highlight…”, but “Mark…” indeed!
I have taken the string from Robert here , but many faulty string appear there.So the correct one is:
Under <Commands>
<Item id=“43054” name=“Mark…”/>Point #2 :
OK, nice. :)Point #3 :
The 6258 bla-bla is at the same place where the 6257 bla-bla, but only appear if you tick the checkbox “Allow on several lines”. :)Point #4 :
Well, in past I have restarted always N++, but lately discovered that mostly it’s enough to go into Settings -> Preferences… -> General -> Localization, select the English, and immediately after select back the mother language, without N++ restart. It refreshes the language. Probably then because of copying nativeLang.xml also during it runs.In some rare case however restart is still needed, if I remember correctly, for certain messages, but I’m not fully sure.
Regards
-
Hello Batagy,
Concerning point #3, I’m confused : I didn’t even think about checking the Allow on several lines option ! Really silly :-(, Thanks you for this info.
On point #4, I noticed that, if you did some modifications on your mother XML language file, it’s enough, as you said, to select the English, in Settings- Preferences - General - Localization, and, immediately, choose again, your mother language, to notice the effect of your changes.
However, if you want to go back, definitively, to English language, a restart of N++ is necessary. If not, seemingly, your last modifications, in your mother language, are still present, after switching to English !
Best regards,
guy038
BTW, as you created the new topic Not translatable places in program, I deleted these lines, in my previous post, and added a link to this new topic.

Please maintain first post updated with updated list of string missings.
What about “Trim Tailing and save” under Macro menu?
-
@Roberto-Boriotti
Good idea. I’ve updated the first post.Regarding “Trim Trailing and save” in Macro, I think it’s name a Macro itself. So it cannot be and shouldn’t be translated.

Hello,
v6.8:
Under <Scintillas title=“Editing”>
<Item id=“6215” name=“Enable smooth font”/>Regards.
-
Thanks for the updates in first post.
I propose to add in first post near date last update also the last Notepad++ version reference (now is 6.8).I believe that we could add these missing strings (ex. with pull request to english.xml - what do you think)? to enable all translator ato update (if it need) the not English language.
Whats about the untranslated part of the installer (ex. module to install and window with program install option).
Is it need to open a separate thread for that? -
@Yaron
Thanks for this below, it’s indeed a new and missing. I have added to the first post.Under <Scintillas title=“Editing”>
<Item id=“6215” name=“Enable smooth font”/>@Roberto-Boriotti
Added version info to first post.Additionally I found that below needs to be uncommented, so that it will work:
Under <Cloud title=“Cloud”>
<Item id=“6261” name=“Please restart Notepad++ to take effect.”/>Finally, I now created a Pull Request to include the 11 known unofficial to make official.
-
Hi batagy,
My pleasure. Many thanks for your work.
Best regards.
-
-
Could you please update english.xml oull with the request by batagy?
I’m waiting that to update Italian language.
-
@Roberto-Boriotti
I suggest you , that it’s not worth bugging developers and translators so much often. It’s actually worse than you just wait. The Pull Request was opened and assigned to Don, so he is aware. He will update it when he can do. Thanks for understanding. -
@batagy
The request about new strings is officialy made just few days but the relative discussion is pending from several months.How many time is required to check and accept one requets of 11 strings (that the developer should know very well and should already included in teh language…) that are mandatory for the program and should have an high priority?
Who so many time to confirm that?
Why did they accept immediately the Hungarian pull request (that should have a lower priority than change to master english language and it means that have time to spent for the project…) and didn’t accept the english pull request?
It seems that the author don’t want change them…
But in this case they have to explain that…Like the discussion about the installer that has two window untranslated.
Like as the macro and other things that are in the same state .
I believe that many important aspects were parked in the oblivion state…

It’s not allowed to edit posts after 180 seconds anymore. So I cannot edit the first post.
Please find update here.Below 4 items were added to the master English.xml, for version 6.8.2 as part of PR #542, so these are not anymore unofficial:
Under <Commands>
<Item id=“43054” name=“Mark…”/>Under <StylerDialog title=“Styler Dialog”>
<Item id=“1” name=“OK”/>
<Item id=“2” name=“Cancel”/>Under <Scintillas title=“Editing”>
<Item id=“6215” name=“Enable smooth font”/>Below 5 items are choosed not to be included in translations by Don (version 6.8.2, as part of PR #542):
Under <Delimiter title=“Delimiter”>
<Item id=“6257” name=“bla bla bla bla bla”/>
<Item id=“6258” name=“bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla”/>
I guess this is not included in master file because it can be understood in other languages. :)Under <Commands>
<Item id=“44012” name=“Hide Line Number Margin”/>
<Item id=“44013” name=“Hide Bookmark Margin”/>
<Item id=“44014” name=“Hide Folder Margin”/>
These 3 items are only appearing in menu if “Customize Toolbar” plugin is installed.
These lines are not supported by Don in the master English.xml. Quote from him:
“Plugin translations will never be in localization file - not only because of maintenance problem, but especially the id of plugin commands are assigned dynamically.”The complete known real unofficial items are these 2 below, for version 6.8.2, modified on 2015.08.20:
Under <Cloud title=“Cloud”>
<Item id=“6261” name=“Please restart Notepad++ to take effect.”/>
This item just needs to be uncommented!Under <ColumnEditor title=“Column Editor”>
<Item id=“2036” name=“Repeat :”/>#759 is created for this latter 2.
-
New in v6.8.7:
Under <DefaultDir title
<Item id=“6430” name=“Use new style save dialog (without file extension feature)”/>
-
Hi Batagy, Yaron, Roberto and All,
2 New items, in version v6.8.8 :
In the <Scintillas> node :
<Item id="6235" name="No edge"/>
In the <Commands> node :
<Item id="47012" name="Debug Info"/>
Roberto, I agree to what you said in your last post : we should get little feedback from Don, and/or from the contributors, about these translation matters !
It doesn’t seem so difficult to add these additional items to the English.xml file, only, under the localization folder, even if they are absent, in the others .xml language files :-)
Cheers,
guy038

Thank you guy038.
Happy New Year.
