Oups, my bad. I thought only the empty plugin folder is removed. In this case, it’s critical.

It’s a bug, but not a critical one. Since we upgrade Scintilla from a very old version to a new one, I prefer to have minimum modification to deal with potential regression.

one thing that might be critical for corporate users:
virustotal warning, again with a jiangmin false positive for nsis installers using SetCompressor /SOLID lzma.
(like npp.7.7.Installer.exe and npp.7.7.Installer.x64.exe)

It’s not us who should “work around” this issue. This work around could work once or several times, but one day when it doesn’t work anymore, we have to find another work around, and then over and over again…
The best way is make these so-called “antivirus” fix it. With the amount of Notepad++ user base, I don’t worry about it.

I modified your post because for me the unstable binaries have been removed for stopping spreading them, therefore users should not be solicited to download unstable version.

7.6.5 release is removed due to a crash issue.

This crash issue is fixed:

I’ll release v7.6.6 in few days. In the meantime the latest version is rolled back to v7.6.4

i’ll keep on testing, and to me it looks very good for now, and very good for the planned release date 😉

There’s no special scheme plan.
If RC is good, then the same binaries will be published as official release. Otherwise the regression is fixed then the same version number with RC2, etc…
The RC is not supposed to be out of community, so I think it’s OK. In the worst case, we have the build time to compare with.

no user relevant changes to the plugins arrangement have been made, so if you are on 7.6.3, and you update to 7.6.4, you will not experience any changes regarding your existing plugins.

one thing you are going to like: 7.6.4 has the built in feature to open your specific plugins folder directly in an explorer window.
so you will not have to remember any past or present plugins locations, regardless where and how notepad++ is installed.
(this feature applies to both installed and portable versions, both 32 and 64 bit)

ps: if any supportive relevant changes are made or omitted, they will be posted as additional supportive notes, shortly after a release.

the “beta” testing, using e.g. the appveyor artifacts, is still available and has been available for a long time.
i have given you a basic, but maybe too extensively technical guide, on how to test any version before it’s public release, a few weeks/months ago.

as the guide was, retrospectively seen, too technical, i (we) will try to write a simpler guide, suitable for the general public, as soon as i (we) can find the time to do so.

I was integrating Markdown into all zip packages then I realized it doesn’t deployed correctly by Installer in v7.6.3.

Does anybody know what it means to “Replace Notepad”? How is that different from setting N++ as the default text editor?

Hi, sorry for the late answer. I found the solution. Notepad++ doesn’t create the directory %APPDATA%\Roaming\Notepad++\Plugins automatically. I created the directory manually and now Notepad++ crashes any more.

The developer only pays attention to any given “new release” thread in the Community Forums for a short while – and especially once he’s moved on to a newer version, he won’t be paying attention to the thread for an older version.

If you want better tracking, follow this FAQ to the Notepad++ Issues tracker on GitHub. You will want to search the existing issues (both open and closed) to make sure you aren’t repeating someone else’s request (I’ve seen this request multiple times).

Even posting the request there, there is no guarantee that it will be implemented to your liking: he may choose to not implement any given feature request, and might not always close issues he’s privately rejected.
