      @alan-kilborn I’m sorry again. I try to do my best…
      Your formulation is perfect.
      Just a detail, ‘icon =’ is not important for me. So :
      For any other lines, leave them as they are after the ‘song_length =’ line in the output.

      @alan-kilborn You’re exactly correct, this has been a great learning experience for me regarding Notepad++ plugin development. I plan to continue improving my current plugins and write new ones. Once again thank you @Alan-Kilborn and @PeterJones for pointing me in the right direction, you’ve been helped a great deal! : - )

      Given his level of participation here, I’d have to guess that Don doesn’t care.

      Sorry for not being able to spend more time here, and thank you (and others) to be here for helping people. I do care the proper functioning of the forum though.

      By “non-Notepad++ solutions”, I thought it was kind of spam disguised as a solution.
      Even if someone provides a brief reply such as “Notepad++ doesn’t have the feature you want, try VS Code/Sublime Text/UltraEdit/vi/emacs/…etc”, I think it’s tolerable. The most important thing is that users come here to find a solution, and he/she has got one - be it python, batch, run menu or not run menu, whatever - even if it’s not within Notepad++.

      @guy038
      Thank you for pinging me.

      As @donho created this forum, it seems to me that Don is the only person which has authority to tell us what we should speak of or not in our forum !

      The community/forum is not about any specific individual, but about people.
      If I used my privilege to silence others by imposing my will, instead of following the rules, I would be the only one left in this place.

      Regarding the rules about this tangential discussion, I find Peter’s point to be very fair:

      Regarding @Gerald-Kirchner’s 2019-02-16T22:54:10.388 post above,

      I go to NPP -> ? -> Get More Plugins -> http://docs.notepad-plus-plus.org/index.php/Plugin_Central

      It seems to me that the ? > Get More Plugins menu item is more dangerous than helpful, in Notepad++ v7.6.3 and beyond. I have thus submitted issue #5325 to either get the behavior of ? > Get More Plugins changed, or get that menu item removed.

      This and other such questions are answered in the npp-user-manual.org website, which is linked inside Notepad++ as the ? menu’s Notepad++ Online Document entry.

      The location of config files is described in https://npp-user-manual.org/docs/config-files/ The macros section of shortcuts.xml is described at https://npp-user-manual.org/docs/config-files/#macros The overview of macros is found at https://npp-user-manual.org/docs/macros/

      All the same, I think any feature request for a more system-integrated portable version is better placed with a project that deals exclusively with packaging. Scoop and winget are just the first two that come to mind. There’s even a close-sourced project distributing MSI installers.

      @Andre-Viol ,

      @xomx linked to the official issue months ago. We in the Forum can do nothing to get bugs fixed – we can help users through the process of proving it’s a bug, and can sometimes find workarounds. But in the end, the official issues pages, like the one linked above, are where the official debugging occurs. If you want to remind the developers to continue working on the problem, there is the appropriate place.

      In the discussion in that issue report, you will find links to debug versions, and requests for logs from that debug version. If it hasn’t been fixed yet, then you need to follow the instructions in that discussion, and post the results in that discussion, and hopefully @xomx will be able to take the information you provide there and help incorporate it into a fix.

      Discussion Locked

      This issue can only be fixed if people who have this problem participate in the official issue report at https://github.com/notepad-plus-plus/notepad-plus-plus/issues/11556 . Posting in this Forum discussion thread will not propagate the information to all the right individuals. Any further discussion on this problem needs to occur in the official issue. As a result, this discussion is being locked, to encourage you to use the issue tracker to discuss the known issue.

      @terry-r For some reason I can’t use any regexs on the LF versions of these transcripts - I get an error message about the document being read only. Guy038 wrote a new regex that worked like a charm, though.

      Thanks again for your help leading me through this. I appreciate it :)

      I don’t find what I said uncordial.
      What is being asked for IS dumb, especially given the high number of regressions in Notepad++ new releases over the last so many months.
      I wouldn’t be surprised if the poster did go there and read it, and realize, “Yes, what I asked for truly is dumb”. It really doesn’t have to do with being asked repeatedly.

      @ahmed-syed I signed in to this site just to say THANK YOU!!! I did not know about the post-it mode and am absolutely loving it.
      I knew about adding virtual desktops but it’s good to see somebody else giving them some love. Most people I’ve interacted with just think it’s gimmicky, but if you know how to utilize it correctly, it can be an invaluable multi-tasking tool.

      Impressed that “5 years later” this thread and plugin again got attention. This plugin is exactly what I needed.

      The alternative plugin mentioned by @DaveyD in 2017, called “File Switcher, by Dave Brotherstone” no longer appears in my Plugin Admin (maybe I’m doing something wrong) so I’m glad I have this.

      [FYI: I found this plugin mentioned at https://community.notepad-plus-plus.org/topic/14375/search-open-file-name after searching the internet for “notepad++ search open tabs” and “notepad++ search open filenames”.]

      My problem is I have 31 tabs open and NavigateTo didnt see 2 of my tabs. Both are recently opened. But it does see fine another tab that was recently opened.

      One of the missing files is from a flash drive, flash drive then removed, npp asks me if I want to keep it and I say yes. But the other is regular file resident on local drive. And other files from the flash drive show up. And another new file I just loaded while writing this is correctly present in the NavigateTo list.

      I am using v.1.12.4.1 and my Notepad++ is at v8.3.3 which is not the latest.

      Possibly this fix released in v.1.12.6 that I don’t have yet fixes it: https://github.com/young-developer/nppNavigateTo/issues/15; Or my issue could be different/similar/related.

      I’ll update to the latest and try it again later when I have time.

      If it helps:
      Notepad++ v8.3.3 (64-bit)

      OS Version : 2009
      OS Build : 19044.1766
      Current ANSI codepage : 1252
      Plugins : ComparePlugin.dll DSpellCheck.dll mimeTools.dll NavigateTo.dll NppConverter.dll NppExport.dll NppTextViz.dll NppXmlTreeviewPlugin.dll TakeNotes.dll XMLTools.dll

      @Angga-Setia-Budi ,

      Mind you, your question doesn’t really apply to this thread’s discussion, however to move you along, here’s the steps needed. Go to the menu bar Preferences->Style Configurator->Language: Global Styles and then Style: Default Style. You’ll then see the two color selectable boxes to the right in the Colour Style Section of the Dialog box. You can set the colors there for whatever you want for the non-focusing line colors, and then go down to Style: Current line background and again, look to the right to see the color selection boxes to choose the colors from there. Now mind you, if it’s a predefined language you’re using, that will change the colors for all the language.
      See Below:

      Well…that’s a whole lot of trial and error work. How about a little Pythonscript?:

      longest_line_length = 0 shortest_line_length = None def fel(line_contents, line_number, total_lines): global longest_line_length, shortest_line_length line_contents = line_contents.rstrip() # remove line-ending llc = len(line_contents) if llc > longest_line_length: longest_line_length = llc if shortest_line_length == None: shortest_line_length = llc if llc < shortest_line_length: shortest_line_length = llc editor.forEachLine(fel) notepad.messageBox('The longest line in the current file is {}; the shortest is {}.'.format(longest_line_length, shortest_line_length), 'INFO')

      When run it pops up a box with the results, for example:
