I would guess this is due to having periodic backups enabled. Try disabling that option.

@kczx3 Created an account just for agreeing with this. Changing the folder selection would easily fix this.

MS proposes the following steps (don’t know if you already tried it)

Press the Windows key + R to open the Run Window. In the Run Window enter the following: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset Click OK. The OneDrive system tray icon on the desktop should disappear and re-appear after a minute or two. If the OneDrive system tray icon does not re-appear after a few minutes, do the following.
In the Run Window Enter: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe

Actually you are right, it works with XP but not in windows 7/10 x64. Seems MS changed the api.

it looks like for the first time there is a slight difference to subsequent calls
but nothing which I actually would call a delay.
