    @kuzduk-kuzduk
    I’m pretty sure this will be changed in Notepad++ 8.6.5 (should be released soon).

    @Scud-McFox Many of these responses are only possible reasons and some might be incorrect.

    the font has less contrast and not good to read and much more tiring for the eyes overall the contrast of bars/design is much to low the hitbox for the line-marking-dot is to small now

    4K monitor possibly scaled up as others report as being blury.

    the thickness of the line-number-bar is much to big now

    New margin for Change History adds to the overall width.

    startup time is much slower then some versions before

    More code doing more stuff equals slower performance , though some people want more and more.

    had to reconfig all the hotkeys again because they are now extremely unhandy right clickin a script in the documentslist on the left side has now nested options and takes more time to click usefull things like “open explorer path” there was many useless stuff i had to disable, like the right “+ v x”-bar and now that little usefull x is missing many/all new other changes/additons are annoying

    Cannot have everything you want it to be, unless you are in control.

    vertical indicator bars are irritating and confusing what they are for (change history indicators). they steal to much focus on the script/text itself

    You can turn Change History off or on in Notepad++.

    I have been working on a PythonScript script to configure Change History and other editor and lexer settings. 168 properties so far though consider close to finished.
    Will be able to change colours and visibility of markers and indicators of Change History.

    Hmm, sneak peek at only a small part of a gif I created yesterday:

    peek.gif

    so will be able to tone down the colours yourself by using the script.

    why they have to change/add tonns of useless stuff to that really good and handy editor? fixing bugs/performance okey, but not the opposite and plz dont bloat it to crap!!

    I agree. (Sometimes logic loses to the dark side of the force)

    @AZJIO-AZJIO: Just wondering—were you trying to write that post in your own editor? Could that be the problem?

    Use pure Win32 API is the advantage of Notepad++, which could bring Windows users a smooth experience in a fast response. For this notepad++ is good yet there is no reason to have a macOS version just because it couldn’t.

    There are already lots of editor with native interfaces under macOS environments. If still miss notepad++ appearence, NotepadNext is a good choice…

    @Stan-Petit said in BAD Assumptions and deleting information:

    I would say this another way : I couldn’t find any proper place to do so …

    Did you happen to look in one of those “subjects” areas perhaps the FAQ since it might have relevant information. I guess not, but maybe now is the time to read some, especially Feature Request or Bug Report.

    There is lots of good information within the FAQ and also posted/pinned to the start of most “subjects” areas as well. Unfortunately most “new” members of the forum seem to miss them. I suppose why would be the obvious question?

    And I suppose english isn’t your first language as it would be wish-list, whish is a sound. But after reading the linked post in the FAQ, you will see that while talking about bugs or features here is helpful, officially those requests need to be made elsewhere to get any possible traction with the developers.

    I’m a bit hesitant to ask…but maybe share a bit more detail about the scripting in question?

    If it is similar to this report, it is most probably not the Notepad++ fault.

    @Malfeasant-Platypus
    You make a statement but you supply absolutely nothing to back it up. Firstly, providing the version you are using would be very helpful. Suggest read this post and then supply the info requested.

    I will hoever go out on a limb here, in suggesting you are possibly using the portable installer. If that is the case you need to read this post. Understand that the portable version DOES overwrite everything by default, that is how it was designed. As it appears you don’t want that to occur you either need to back up the XML files first as suggested in that thread, or use the normal installer.

    Also read this post.

    In future requests for help need to have the relevant information otherwise nobody is going to be interested in helping you.

    @dulce-gd Conceivably you have anti-virus software running that incorrectly identifies Notepad++ or some of the optional software (Python?) as “trojan”. The difference from a trojan will be that you can un-install Notepad++.

    Except when the uninstall program is the part that’s being shown - rightly or wrongly - as the trojan.

    And it’s happened before now that hackers have taken Notepad++ - or other publicly available software - and have created their own evil copy of it, that installs malicious software. And installs Notepad++ hopefully but even so, that’s not a good thing to happen.

    Taking a position about Ukraine could make this more likely.

    TL;DR - “remove”, un-install, the Notepad++ software. If that comes out better - then it probably wasn’t trojan. Trojan software sticks.

    So then, discreetly share details of the detection with our host, or with your malware detection provider.

    @bernard-vaché

    Wouldn’t it be better to use a hex editor rather than a text editor for that purpose?
