Sorry, I assumed that “did you try changing the Styler for numbers” would lead you to the “Number Style” section to click on the Stylers button.

I did not tried to change anything else, I changed directly what you recommended.

For the first problem – the main text showing up inverted – that makes sense. But when you had a problem with numbers, I would have hoped that you would learn from the first lesson and generalize. I cannot possibly anticipate every problem you might have, and, as my time in this forum is just on a volunteer basis, I cannot spend all my time exploring every possible problem someone might have implementing my advice.

Update: there is already an existing feature request #8300 that was requested in May 2020, and the developers haven’t implemented it yet. You can feel free to upvote that request at the link I provided, but again, I am doubtful that anything will ever come of it.

When you post about a problem, you should always start out with stating what version you are using. Also, if you had posted a screenshot rather than just describing the problem, we’d have gotten you to a solution faster.

We’re just N++ users here, attempting to point out ways in which you can obtain your desired functionality right this instant. Often these ways involve some sort of compromise on your part. Your alternative is to just go on missing the feature you are missing.

This discussion has made me realize that I’m guilty of letting the “perfect” be the enemy of the “good” - so, to rectify that, here is my current, combined, unfinished (and likely “perpetually unfinished”) version of @Ekopalypse and @Alan-Kilborn’s keyboard programs. I realize that this program is way longer than it needs to be, both in terms of code and comments, but I took this on as a learning experience; if anyone is interested in suggesting further improvements, I’ll be glad to receive them.

@guy038 and I are the primary FAQ maintainers, though there are a couple others who have permissions to edit the FAQ entries. If you message either of us when you notice something out-of-date in a FAQ, we’ll generally handle it promptly.

(For example, I just changed the links in that FAQ)

Though I don’t have time at this instant, I have also added a TODO to my list searching for other Boost links to see if there are more that should be changed. (I don’t think we have as many volatile Scintilla links, since Scintilla has one single source for documentation, and doesn’t link doc-per-version.)

Let’s do this, this way. I went to the website I linked to showing what zpl code looks like, and I selected it and copied it to NPP from the website:

I then pasted it into Notepad++ like this here:

As you can see, all the line endings here, did not translate being copied into Notepad++. regardless, I then printed the page to a .pdf file here:

As you can see, NPP printed the “code” per NPP, not the commands and associated representations you expect to be printed. Also note, that printing into PDF from NPP, it added a return symbol at the end of the line that I did not enter, so apparently what you see is not what you get, depending on the printer used.

I suspect since it was a .pdf, there are defaults for that, and may have printed differently on a text only printer, and it would probably if it is able to send to your printer, add things that are not ‘standard’ for your printer to accept. After all, this is a text editor, not a lable printer, so it is going to do things according to how NPP interprets things. Your job will be to find out why and if possible, change what is necessary to make it come out the way you want on the printer you want it to come out on.

Unless someone here has similar experience using what you use, it would be incumbent on you to figure it out and maybe come back here with an answer that will help someone else in the future. Isn’t technology and freedom fun? :-)

Thanks to @guy038 for pointing out what I should have seen when referring to the option to copy selected Lines for pasting into another tab.

I went looking for when that was implemented and it appears to have been added way back in version 7.9 here, #12, if my search is correct, so for over 2 years.

It is always nice to see a feature when one least expects it. This app keeps on giving and giving.

Well, I noticed that in my last v.7.9.2 version, compatible with Windows XP, my Encoding menu looks like this :

As you notice, between this v7.9.2 screenshot and the v8.5 screenshot of @alan-kilborn, in his post, there differences in the names of the non UTF_8/ANSI encodings :

For 7.9.2 release :

UCS-2 BE BOM

UCS-2 LE BOM

Convert to UCS-2 BE BOM

Convert to UCS-2 LE BOM

For 8.5 release and versions from v8.0 :

UTF-16 BE BOM

UTF-16 LE BOM

Convert to UTF-16 BE BOM

Convert to UTF-16 LE BOM

The differences is that :

The encodings relative to UCS-2 can ONLY encode characters of the BMP Unicode plane, between \x{0000} and \x{FFFF}

The encodings relative to UTF-16 can encode ALL Unicode characters, between \x{0000} and \x{10FFFF}, as well as the UTF-8 encoding

So, since the v8.0 release, there is a significant improvement about writing the exact characters, when they have an Unicode code-point over \x{FFFF} !

However, note that, when you want to search any character over the BMP so > \x{FFFF}, you MUST use the equivalent surrogate regex syntax of this character !

For instance the 💦 character, with the Unicode code-point 1F4A6 cannot be searched with the regex \x{1F4A6} but can be reached with its equivalent regex syntax \x{D83D}\x{DCA6}. Of course, you may also directly paste this specific character in the search field !

Refer to any Internet site relative to characters to get the correspondance between the hexadecimal code-point of a character and its surrogate value, expressed in a two consecutive double-byte string

You can use the -multiInst command line parameter, and/or there are some Preferences regarding this feature:

Yes, actually it is. Considering there are plenty more applications out there with similar names, you could have chosen any of them, but you most likely chose this one because it appears at the top of a search list as the most used/downloaded and highly rated FREE notepad replacement.
