I just did an experiment where I changed the XML file for a language (they are in the plugins\APIs directory) from this:
<Environment ignoreCase="no"
to this:
<Environment ignoreCase="yes"
and it seemed to have the desired effect.

From what you said, I think that my solution (C) does exactly what you would like to !
Indeed, any line, which contains the domain attribute, with a value different from the string post_tag, will NOT be removed :-)

An obvious followup question is why even have this setting if it does not work?
I excpect the option “Global Styles: Selected text colour” to mean "globally set colour of selected text ".
Whit NPP closed select the folder in Explorer than drag and drop it on the NPP shortcut (e.g. the one your Desktop), it should open all files in the “old way”
